THE CLIENT

About Labman

4ARMED, a UK-based cybersecurity firm recognized for its specialized training and solutions, wanted a fast-paced cybersecurity platform that would allow aspiring cybersecurity professionals to practice cybersecurity exercises in real time.

The Challenge

4ARMED came to us with nothing but a rough concept: that of a platform for hands-on cybersecurity training. We had to create the concept from scratch, turning their idea into a functional, successful web application with gamification through features like ranks and badges.

Their Primary Goal

A ready-to-go MVP.
Make lessons, instructions, levels, and progress tracking easy to follow.
Encourage users to upgrade to a Pro plan.

Their Secondary Goal

Stay true to the brand identity.
Keep the design minimal so developers can focus on what matters most.

The platform is designed for both organizational and independent use, making it suitable for companies training employees, as well as cybersecurity specialists looking to grow in the field.

We began by working with 4ARMED’s brand guidelines, progressing from wireframes to polished UI designs through multiple iterations. Each lab level was designed with a clear user flow and straightforward design to ensure ease of use. During this process, we also identified how gamification could enhance the user experience.

The Outcome

Focused Exercises for Cybersecurity Growth

We designed labs as focused exercises targeting specific cybersecurity skills. Labeled as beginner, intermediate, and pro, they let users start where they feel comfortable and build confidence over time. To keep users motivated, we incorporated gamification elements like XP rewards and progress tracking. Users can also create notes, access references, track friends’ activities, answer post-lab questions, and stay engaged with a healthy sense of competition.

XP Roadmaps

Profiles That Inspire Progress

We introduced a social feature where users can view everyone’s activity, including roadmaps that showcase how others earned their XP. These roadmaps are designed to guide users in their training, offering inspiration and direction if they’re ever stuck. Users can also access their profiles to track their journey, view badges celebrating milestones, and see how much XP they need to level up, keeping them motivated through gamification.

Urging Users to Upgrade

We kept upgrading to the Pro version of the platform simple yet conversion-friendly, with a sticky button that stays visible, gently nudging users to explore everything the platform offers.

Scalable Design System with Reusable Components

To keep the design scalable and grounded in 4ARMED's brand identity, we created reusable components across the platform, delivering a visually appealing user experience and unifying the theme throughout.

The Impact

We designed Labman to be the ideal cybersecurity training platform, motivating users with consistent gamified elements while minimizing distractions through a clean, focused design.
